European Outdoor Award Winner: Nordisk TYGE -5

Gold Winner In The Category Camping & Travel

The Nordisk TYGE -5 is a high-performance down sleeping bag that consistently combines functionality and sustainability. Its key feature lies in its materials: it is made from 100% bio-based nylon and dyed with natural pigments derived from onion skins, giving it unique, vibrant hues.

The sleeping bag’s down filling also comes from a single farm in Denmark and is processed in Germany, ensuring complete transparency and certification. Despite its natural approach, it offers reliable warmth down to -6 °C, as well as a well-thought-out design and high comfort.

What convinced the jury:

100% bio-based materials:
Outer shell and lining made of bio-based nylon, reducing the use of fossil-based raw materials.

Innovation in natural dyeing:
Unique dyeing with onion skins, eliminating the need for synthetic dyes.

Traceable down from a single farm:
Fully transparent sourcing from a single farm, with consciously acknowledged, natural limits on availability.

Jury Statement:

The Nordisk TYGE -5 stands out for its strong sustainability concept. The use of 100 percent bio-based nylon is remarkable in itself, but what is particularly exceptional is the natural dyeing technique using onion skins, which enables completely natural coloring with minimal environmental impact. The product also prioritizes transparency regarding the down: It comes entirely from a single farm, ensuring complete traceability–while consciously taking into account the natural limits of availability.

Proven expertise – but with new materials

The TYGE -5 is based on over 50 years of experience in the development of mummy sleeping bags and down sleeping bags at Nordisk, with a clear focus on thermal performance and comfort. At the same time, Nordisk has long pursued the goal of using materials that are as sustainable as possible—until now, primarily recycled fabrics and synthetic fillings, as well as CRYSTAL DOWN from its own manufacturing facility.

The TYGE -5 now marks the next step: Instead of recycled materials, 100% plant-based, naturally dyed fabrics are used for the first time, giving the sleeping bag a particularly natural look and feel.

The down has been reimagined as well. A single-farm blend of duck and goose down, rated at 694 cuin, delivers insulation on par with 750+ goose down. Filled at Nordisk’s own facility in Germany, CRYSTAL DOWN Single Farm Edition is produced in small batches from one certified organic farm in Denmark, offering full traceability from source to sleeping bag.

On the internal thermal collar Nordisk completely avoids plastic buttons or magnetic closures, opting instead for a new type of Velcro fastener that is fail-safe, exceptionally soft on both sides and does not scratch.

Features:

● Fully equipped hood

● Thermal collar and foot area designed for heat retention and comfort

● Soft Velcro closure instead of plastic buttons or magnetic closures

● Lightweight, compact sleeping bag

Intended Use

The TYGE -5 is made for anyone who needs a lightweight, compact-packing sleeping bag with reliable warmth down to sub-zero temperatures (limit -6 °C) while on the go. It is ideal for camping, hiking, trekking, and long-distance hikes, climbing, or bikepacking – anywhere where a small pack size and a restful night’s sleep are crucial.

The target audience consists of outdoor enthusiasts who venture out even in cooler conditions and prioritize functional gear with the smallest possible ecological footprint. The TYGE -5 offers precisely this balance of warmth, comfort, and sustainability.
