European Outdoor Award Winner: Mountain Equipment Tupilak

Gold Winner In The Category Climbing

The Mountain Equipment Tupilak is a super-lightweight climbing pack for demanding technical terrain, recognised with the European Outdoor Award. As the next generation of the proven Tupilak model, it combines new ALUULA composite fabrics with refined construction techniques for use on the world’s most serious mountains.

In summary, the Tupilak offers maximum durability with minimum weight: ALUULA 97 and 115 UHMWPE provides exceptional tear and abrasion resistance, as well as high UV resistance.

Reduced seams (one-piece front and side panels) improve weather resistance, whilst the composite construction provides reliable compression and attachment points. The optimised shoulder straps do away with unnecessary padding, ensuring greater efficiency. The result is a lightweight climbing pack designed for demanding technical routes and long-term use in the mountains.

What convinced the jury:

ALUULA 97 and 115 UHMWPE fabrics:
Very low weight and high strength, abrasion and UV resistance. ideal for technical climbing and high-altitude expeditions.

Unified Construction:
Single-piece front and side panels minimise seams, improve weather resistance, and enable new bonding attachment techniques.

Grappler II Buckle:
A more durable yet easy to use fastening for the lid flap, combined with the aluminium buckle, ensures easy packing and reliable weather protection.

Jury Statement:

We were impressed by how the Tupilak pack pushes alpine pack design forward through the intelligent use of ALUULA composite materials. The refined construction, reduced seams and bonded attachment points demonstrate a highly progressive approach, as do details such as the Grappler II buckle.
